Our Tours
Downtown Walking Tour - The tours are led by a trained and knowledgeable guide. Available Friday mornings except holidays. Tours begin at 9AM and take approximately 1.5 hours. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance. Please call 340-774-5541 or 340-643-6782 to make a payment for the tour and reserve a space. ($35 donation suggested/per person for tour). Tour departs from the steps of Fort Christian just across from Emancipation Park.
Museum Tour - Our new museum is open Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm. Closed Weekends and Holidays. Please visit us downtown at 5332 Raadets Gade. Admission $10 for Adults, Children 12 and under free.
Hassel Island Tours - Tours are Tuesdays and Thursdays meeting at museum at 9AM. Tour is $80.00 per person and last approximately 2-3 hours including transportation to Hassel Island. Please contact us at 340-774-5541 or 340-643-6782 for more information.
Our Events
St. Thomas Through Earlier Eyes - January 27-28, 2017
"St. Thomas Through Earlier Eyes" is an event to showcase Historic VI art and maps, with a focus on St. Thomas history and artists. – Friday and Saturday January 27th and 28th, 2017 from 3:00-9:00PM at Yacht Haven Grande (Havana Nines location).
Our Restorations
Current Project: Bred Gade Step Street
Step streets are unique to St. Thomas and its hill town of Charlotte Amalie. Many of these step streets have fallen into disrepair. The St. Thomas Historical Trust has made an effort to give back to the community by helping to preserve and restore these unusual ‘streets.’ For the Bred Gade restoration, which goes from Nye Gade up Denmark Hill, golden bricks matching the originals were custom-made on St. Croix.
The Trust is encouraging local businesses and organizations to “Adopt a Step Street” and help us continue this restoration effort.
Recently Completed Projects: Hassel Island
Hassel Island forms the western edge of St. Thomas Harbor. Explore this website (www.hasselisland.org) to learn about Hassel’s rich military and mercantile history, the many unique sites on the island, and the constant conservation, preservation, and interpretation efforts made by the National Park Service, the St. Thomas Historical Trust, and dedicated community members.
Our History
St Thomas Historical Trust took wings on November 23rd, 1965 when twelve dedicated Virgin Islanders put pen to paper and signed the Articles of Incorporation. Article #11 stated that there would be 12 initial Directors: they were as follows; Alonzo Moron, Anna Daniels, Edith Feiner, Vivian Anduze, Frederick Gjessing, Eveston Webb, Margot Bachman, Robinson Smith, Ira Smith, Gertrude Dudley, Isidor Paiewonsky, and John Bensen. A lot is owed to those 12 for having the vision to preserve and protect our historical sites and heritage. Many boards have served for the last 45 years. But we always give thanks to the ones who got us started!
